About Tennessee

I am a

I’m Tennessee Watt, an award-winning diversity & inclusion consultant, marketing strategist, LinkedIn influencer, and international public speaker and moderator. I help business leaders create social change, and elevate their brands for lasting impact.

I help you:

  • Position your organization to authentically and effectively engage a diverse range of stakeholders

  • Gain insight into key themes, pivotal moments, and influential voices surrounding your brand

  • Empower your team through training on inclusive marketing, allyship and communication, fostering a culture rich in diversity and understanding

  • Diversify your supply chain to champion equity, boost innovation, and solidify your commitment to a sustainable and inclusive future.

After earning a First Class Bachelor's in Business and Finance and a Master's from Imperial College, I began my career as a crisis manager at the PR firm Brunswick Group, where I honed my skills in digital media monitoring, analyzing discussion around the brands of FTSE 100 clients. As a reputation manager, I began to gain curiosity about more sustained methods of enhancing brands’ reputations beyond a crisis statement on social media. During a few world-changing crises (COVID-19, George Floyd), I pivoted my career to diversity, inclusion, and social impact, keen to make a long-term difference in society.

I was employee number 3 at the start-up strategy agency Purpose Union, where I built the digital communications offer for clients from scratch, providing digital campaigns, community management, social listening, design, and copywriting services. I then joined Google to drive the marketing of Tech Equity Collective, an initiative to increase Black representation in the tech industry. Here, I co-created and marketed a $1 million fund, providing 16 organizations with the capital to train thousands of Black tech professionals.

Throughout, I faced questions from clients wondering how to address the myriad of complex social issues in our increasingly interconnected world. I’ve always deeply believed in the symbiotic relationship between profit and purpose, so I founded Tennessee Watt Consulting to help leaders address these societal challenges in a way that makes sense for their business and revenue goals.

My Background

Inclusive marketing and communications

  • I led the go-to-market strategy and activation for the Webby Award winning Black Women in Tech campaign by Google, featured in Afrotech.

  • I’ve helped a range of clients to develop inclusive campaigns including Comic Relief, Natwest Bank, and media company Sky UK.

  • I developed the creative and social content for the #OurBeautifulGame campaign, which successfully secured UK football (soccer) an independent regulator.

  • I’ve written articles for Business Insider and Adweek, and been quoted in Forbes for my inclusion expertise.

Public speaking and workshop facilitation

  • I’ve delivered workshops for Imperial College London, children’s charity Magic Breakfast and more.

  • I’ve given a TEDx talk in Botswana, spoken for HireBlack, DIVERSE., and on stage at ColorInTech’s Black Tech Fest.

  • My expert workshop topics include Inclusive Marketing and Communications, Allyship in the Workplace, Navigating Unconscious Bias, and Managing Diverse Teams. Interested in a custom workshop? I’ll work with you to tailor one to your needs.

  • I speak confidently on a variety of topics including Gen Z, Black culture, allyship, influencers, and the tech industry. See my full list of topics here.

  • I’ve earned a CMI Level 7 Award in Strategic Approaches to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, honing my understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion at a strategic level, and identifying how to best integrate key objectives into the organisation.

Fun Facts

  • I’m a keen traveller, and have visited 7 countries in the past year. I’ve climbed pyramids in Cairo, and scaled Table Mountain in Cape Town. Additionally, I previously studied in London, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Rennes and Prague. My favourite thing to do is immerse myself in new cultures, customs and ideas.

  • A born creative, I became a published poet and age 10 and I won 1st place (and a professional DSLR camera!) in the London Legacy 2020 Schools Photography Project at 15 years old.

  • I won the Dean’s Community Award for Alumni from Imperial College Business School and was listed as one of Startups Magazine's 23 Most Influential Women of 2023 for my dedication to social impact.

“There’s power in allowing yourself to be known and heard, in owning your unique story, in using your authentic voice. And there’s grace in being willing to know and hear others.”

— MICHELLE OBAMA
